Ford Focus 2001 ZX3. Steering wheel wobbles at low speeds through parking lot. When parked, there is a clunk only when initiating steering wheel turn to right. Clunk heard on outside and felt quite pronounced through steering column. Read through many of the threads here that looked promising but the discussions meander in too many directions. :-(

Jacked up front end and did the shake "left and right" "top and bottom" of wheels to feel for obvious play in ball joints and tie rods. Nothing noticable.

Old Ford recall speaks of "steering column knuckle bolts" that were known to come loose.

Anyone have a procedure to check this out and/or any other ideas?

Thanks Members!

Loud clunk at parking speeds IS ball joint. Pretty much that is what is your issue.
If it is really a BIG clunk, you may soon loose what is left of the pin and your wheel will fall off sidways at anytime.
So i would have someone really take them apart to check.. really.
