my starter is stuck in the engage position, have replaced starter, checked relays, checked ignition switch and still no luck. as soon as you touch the positive cable to the positive terminal, it engages the starter whether the key is in the ignition or not.

Moved to General Tech Chat, best place for most repair questions.

You didn't mention checking for power at the starter solenoid, the place to find out if it's powering up when it shouldn't.

Look closer that should be EASY to find. Pulling starter relay should narrow it down and part of checking them. The cable itself can short right there at the starter and nothing else would be involved.

Out of date years ago..................

Go down page and expand recall#2

They blame it on misrouting but not that at all, in my view the cables are substandard. They routinely melt at the positive post, starter and can whip around to short at back of motor. That would be misrouting in that last case. Mostly the cable is too small and heats up more than usual then the added heat makes it start corroding at the exposed wire next to terminal and it all then gets worse. Ford cheaping out on wire cost like so many other times to produce a huge number of fire related issues on various cars/trucks in the last 20 years.
