So I have a couple of options to pick from and I'm having a hard time determining what is the best value/most practical for daily driving.

First is the 2018 ST1 brand new pepper red, with the usual cloth seats and mini entertainment center. So essentially 0 miles and it's going for $21386. I like the idea of a new car but in all honesty there's not much that's beneficial to getting a new car aside from knowing that no one else has messed with the tuning/raced it. 2 hour drive away.
(There's also a 2016 ST1 for $18875 with 22645mi in white which I like but I'm not a huge fan of the mileage)

Next is the '18 ST2 metallic gray used with 4587mi going for $21452. Partial leather seats with the larger sync 3 entertainment center. Seeing that this is essentially the same price as the ST1 this is higher on my list for sure unless you guys know something that the ST2 is notorious for (eg. Stitching falling apart/discoloration etc). 1 hour drive away.

Finally the 2016 ST3. $19970 with 8292 miles. I know it looks enticing. It's a 3.5 hour drive for me and has the works (minus the carbon fiber shifter, that wasn't till later years). Full Recaro leather with no signs of wear, no problems noticed based on pictures. The two things that's really pulling me away from this is the distance and I'm 6'3" 220lbs and I've been told the seats can be kind of tight.

I'm really between the ST2 and ST3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that the engine and powertrain components all stay the exact same between all of the packages.I’m pretty sure the only thing that changes is the interior. And i’m pretty sure the only thing that changes is the interior. I don’t need full leather seats. If it cost a dime more than a ST2 I probably wouldn’t get it. However since it is more than $1000 cheaper for the ST3 I’m considering it. I know no one to make that decision for me other than myself, I just want to try to get some opinion from the community.

I'm generally always going to pick new for a similar price range but that's just me. The sync 3 system is also nice. I have a Fiesta ST so I can't comment too much on a Focus ST.

Thanks for the advice. The sync 3 is probably my favorite part of my 2017 SEL. I think that might be a dealbreaker for me. I’ve seen some other ST2’s for around 22k/23k but it’s just hard for me to justify an extra 3k just for a new car when the ST3 is only 8k miles and is 20k. Idk just trying to think out loud haha

ST2 & ST3 seats are the same shape, just different coverings and no heaters on ST2. Powertrain is identical across all three. ST2 gets Sync 3 with sony 10 speaker system, ST3 adds navigation to the ST2 radio.

I bought a '16 ST3 with 11k miles in August 2017 and have just under 41k miles on it now. I have the "premium" wheels and carbon fiber accents in my car. I am 6' tall and 190lbs. I find the seats comfortable on long drives with no issues. To me it was worth getting an ST3 because I really wanted the heated seats that only came in the ST3 trim. I think I paid ~$22k out the door when I bought it.

To me the immediate hit you take in depreciation was not worth buying brand new in any trim level. I worked up a deal on brand new and the best price on an ST3 was $27,500 plus tax title and fees at a local dealer. Ended up driving 6 hours to buy the used one that was identical.

My advice, go test drive new ones locally before making a long trip if you can.

Really comes down to, if you like the st2/st3 seats vs the st1 seats...Best to go to your nearest dlr to checkout the seat differents 1st, then go from there......so ppl like then & some don't.
