Hello!

This is my first post here.
I drive a Mazda MX-5 NC 2.0, which uses a Duratec engine with a variable intake manifold and VVT - i.e. MZR.
In stock form it develops 160 HP (in Europe).
This model has been in the market for quite little and unfortunately there aren't many performance mods for it yet.
There are a few MZR specialists in the UK, but they only offer parts and engines for motorsport.

I have read through the forum, but I still have some question that you might be able to help me with.

So far I have a Mazdaspeed CAI, which is supposed to give an app. 8 HP gain.
There is also a full race exhaust system by DC Sports, which includes a header, a midpipe and a single-tip outlet and eliminates both cats.
Although for street use it is totally inappropriate, due to the noise and smog it lets out.
But this combined with the Mazdaspeed CAI is said to give an over 200 HP output.

Can you suggest any performance header suitable for RWD applications?
The first cat shall be eliminated and I will most likely have a custom midpipe and catback made with a high-flow cat in the middle.

What gains are attainable with a high flow intake manifold (so far I think only Cosworth offers one)?
What other mods should accompany the intake manifold and does it need a remap to take advantage of it?

What are other 'spots' where there is power to be found?
Without to going extremes (i.e. 4-throttle bodies & high compression chambers) what are about the highest power levels reachable?

Thank you! [:)] [:)]

Unfortunately, the majority of use focus on FWD applications. There are a couple of Caterham owners on here that might have some idea. You could also peak into some Ranger forums to see if anyone there is playing.

Good luck with your build, and keep us posted with your progress.

Hi-Boost has a turbo kit for the D20 in a Focus, but he is mostly a Mazda specialist. I looked on their site and didn't see any reference to a Miata kit, but when you go searching for the turbo kits- the Focus kit is not listed although it's all over the home page. He might be able to hook you up with something. Lower pressure non-race turbos tend to do better with stock intake, TB, etc, and it would definately put you in an extreme power range.

The market in the US was new when I bought my Focus, and I've had to wait. Fortunately that is giving me time to save up money to do things the right way. You might just have to wait until some more road going mods are available for your engine- or come up with some on your own [thumb]

Thank you guys!

I wouldn't want to go the forced induction route.
It is a light little car and I'd much rather have the revving nature near the redline rather than the muscle-from-down-low nature of forced induction.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the Ranger forum or any 3s or 6s forums.
