Back when I was running my 5 liter we used to use a shorter serpentine belt that only ran the water pump and alternator. This was usually good for at least a 1/4 second and some reported as much as a half. Regardless of the amount of benefit, has anyone done this on the Zetec motor? I've only had the car a week, and I really haven't taken the time to look myself to see if everything would still rotate properly.
