if you really want it to look great. Heres a suggestion on what you could do. Obv first wash it, get it clean. Then go over the whole truck with a clay bar, that will remove alot of the dirt stuck in the paint. Then use a slightly abrasive compound followed up by some glaze then finally a coat of wax. Also you may want to get some spray paint and touch up things like trim, wheels etc etc.

Wash her really good use Dawn dish Detergent it will help loosen the hard dirt. Clay bar the car. Wash it again using dawn to remove the clay residue. The car will need a medium cut polish to remove the heavy oxidation, follow up with a fine cut polish, then seal or wax. If you do not have a orbital polisher, or RO polisher. You may need to use a hand applied compound. I have used Autoglym Paint Renovator with alot of success on negelted paint. If it is hard for you to get try and see if you can get your hands on some rubbing compounds( I think 3M makes some stuff that you can use by hand.) Have fun your arm is going to be tired.

I wouldn't suggest using dawn dish detergent on old paint (or any paint for that matter). It is very likely that it will discolor it. It can be very harsh. I would stick with a car wash solution. If you need to, don't be too scared to scrub a little with a sponge.

To get it looking like the picture below, this is the process...

Wash with Meguiars NXT
clay bar
Meguiars #83 with the cutting pads
Meguiars #82 with a set polishing pads
Meguiars #7
Meguiars #21
Meguiars #16

Of course, this was all applied using a machine.

It is fine to use dawn dish detergant on cars, as long as it is not used on a regular basis. I use it once a year after the winter to get all the post winter grime off the car. I know alot of sites that reccomend dawn for occasinoal use. Proper auto car, autopia care care. It is fine as long as you do not make a habit out of it.
