Hello Everyone:
I went to buy a new shifter knob for my 5 sp focus.I went to take it apart and when i was installing the new one found out a couple of things.Take in consideration I am new at moding.

1)The shifter knob from factory has a nice fit to it.Where the aftermarket shifter by toucan in I bought did not look as nice. The spring kept showing off. Then again I may have not been doing it properly. The instructions that came with the knob, where not good at all, specially since they do not take in consideration our reverse lock out mech.

Please, if someone has a better diagram or instructions to help me out or any comments, It would be appreciated.

you probably got a knob that does not have the large hole at the bottom that will allow the use of the reverse lock. there are companys out there that make shift knobs specificly for our 5spds with the reverse lock, just search the web, you'll find them.

do as bigman said, and kill the reverse lockout. if you're a smart enough driver, you won't throw it into reverse going 90 down the road. lol. just remember, your car is a 5-SPEED.... not a 6-SPEED!!! lol

most cars take a lot of strength to shift into reverse while driving forward anyways...I tried it in an old 4-speed manual Sentra I drove for about a month. I tried everything to break that thing, and when I did, I traded it for my focus...got $300 for it (it was the worse car I've ever had...worse car I've ever driven was an 87-88 escort). BTW...I never did get it into reverse, but it made a loud grinding noise as I bent the shifter

Obviously, you never drove a Chevy Chevette. A friend of mine had an 80's model and when he had 4 people in the car, it would barely move and had a hard @ss time going up hills. It was a gutless wonder of a car with less than 90HP at the crank.

Please get rid of the reverse lockout. There is no need for it at all.
I think it is a stupid idea to have one.
Oh BTW, the worse car I've ever had and driven was a 89 Escort. Reliable my ass!

see...the old escorts sucked...lol
It felt like the whole car was gonna shake to pieces between 15 and 35mph, then above 45mph it got worse. At 70mph (top speed), it felt like you were driving your own coffin!
