So I had the same exact issue as the poster in this thread.
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=258353

I purchased a new shifter arm from the dealership. The dealership discontinued that specific bushing so I ordered the bushing form the link in the thread.

My issue is that despite having the brand new arm installed the new bushing has snapped and it's only been two weeks. Obviously I could just purchase a new bushing but I'm worried about having that one snap as well.

Could there be another problem thats causing extra stress on the bushing? I do have to put a little muscle into shifting the car into reverse but it has been that way since I got the car two years ago.

Any advice/insight? Cheers.

Cable adjustment

You need to adjust the cable on the transmission side. There are a few threads about it here. You'll have to take out the air box and raise (do not remove) the plastic clips that hold down the ends. Have a helper work the shifter around then hold it in the center when you push the clips back down.
