2000 kona zx3, stick shift, 103,000 miles, borla exhaust.

where should i be shifting for maximum power? there's no yellow or red markings on the stock tach.

you should be shifting at about 6500 rpm which is where ur cams run out of juice, maybe a little further so you stay in the powerband when u upshift

thanks. so as a daily driver i'm pretty safe going up to 5k for spirited driving: quick ramp entries, passing, etc.

yup, if you start hearing valve float, then lay off, but thats VERY unlikely!!!

i take mine to 7. and it pulls all the way thru. on the dyno i make max power at 6550

ur power curve will just drop after 6500 or so, so you can push but ur cams aren't making enough power, so you don't get more power. ur valves/springs will also limit you. once they can't overcome the momentum, the valves don't close all the way and are constantly open. thats called valve float.
