hesitation...where?...what rpm and speeds, and how much gas is in the tank when this happens

i doubt its the fuel pump and the fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. you could have a bad DPFE, dirty maf, vacuum leak and quite a few other things...hell could even be a little carbon build up.

The engine light is on cause my cat is hollowed out (bad mistake) it has stalled going down the road twice when i pushed the clutch in and the hesitation starts when i rev it and the car is moving i can feel it all the full tank or an empty tank it doesnt matter it just sits the and shakes and i got an engine ics clean out didnt fix it and a new fuel filter didnt work, the hesistation does it in all gears they said in here its the fuel pump and i want to get a new one a fuel injectors. But i just want the idling to stop what its doing i spent $130 on a new maf from a shop didnt fix shit new plugs wires still does i just want to to run smooth ,and how much does egr cost and why would that effect my idling?

not the egr, part of it, the dpfe sensor usually goes on the focus, plugging the port off the dpfe can help check the problem. i just read you gutted your cat...thats the cause right there, the 2nd o2 sensor is probably shot. just get the car scanned for codes and to pick up a mil eliminator, www.myfordperformance.com

i think it is the d.p.f egr sensor i would replace it. its around $30 symptoms are rough running lack of power surge or poor fuel economy if you need a cat i have one that has 200 miles on it i 'll sell it to you for $150 email me at [email protected]

The second O2 is not used for fuel control, so even if it is failing it will not be the cause of the hesitation. However some of the other suggestions could be the cause.

DPFE stands for Differential Pressure Feedback Egr sensor. Basiclly its a sensor that monitors and helps control the EGR system. If this sensor is failing it could be allowing EGR gases into the air stream while at idle, which could cause an erratic idle and hesitation.

What I would recommend is having the codes pulled to see exactly what is set, autozone will generally do it for free. Knowing what codes have set will help us help you. If nothing else you may have to take it in and have it diagnosed.

Thanks for the info. My car is doing the same... plus. At idle, when in Drive or Park, it will periodically hesitate and then go back to regular rpm. It will also reach the red in temperature. If I rev it up or drive it a very short distance, it will immediately go back to mid temp on the gauge. Sounds like the fan is kicking in, so I don't think that is the problem. And it has coolant. So, are the erratic idle and temp changes related? 2001 Wagon with 94000 miles.

oh wow, at 94000 miles, there are a lot of things that could be causing that.

I noticed this problem on my car recently. it doesn't stall but it idles rough, and the revs tend to hang when I'm in neutral. No fault codes showing. I'm doing my best to scour the forums and not start a new thread so any help guys. Has this problem been solved Blue?

Just replace the dpfe just in case. Its pretty cheap and can be bought from Ford.
