Hello, I am satisfied Focus owner, great car so far.
2001 SE, AT, engine code 3, 163K miles, recent tune up and timing belt.
Had intermittent high idle problems when parked. Shut off and restarting engine idle would be fine, but a sign something was going bad.
Now engine Idles fine in neautral and park, but real rough in gear, reverse is worst. Engine doesn't stall but seems to be on the verge. High idle has not reappeared. Engine runs fine when driving with no obvious mpg loss.
My thoughts are throttle position sensor or idle air control valve is bad.
Found out from Dealer that you cannot just buy the TPS for this model w/AT. Instead you have to buy the throttle body housing w/TPS installed, apparrently due to some issues with it. With that being said I am leaning towords the TPS/TB as the problem.
I would be very interested in your opinions on this. Thanks.
BTW, The price diff between the OEM and the reman is insanely high, wierd.
