I've had my share of electrical gremlins in this car due to the previous owner and have gotten most of the things straightened out but i've got one that popped up again.

2 months ago I replaced the alternator and this issue disappeared with it. But now it's back and has me wondering if it wasn't the alternator...any thoughts? Bad ground?

Had a look at your video upload - there is a link between the audio system and the instrument cluster illumination. See if this diagram can help you trace the fault. Good luck.

That could easily be an issue with the solid state inside the cluster or even the liquid crystal display itself. Could be simply a fluke it happened with alt bad. Quick test, warm idle and read battery volts, if 14 flat or higher the alt is fine.

I had almost the same issue. I cleaned up the grounds on the negative side of the battery where they are bolted to the car and that cured it. Then we went ahead and added another ground wire.
