Just as the title says, I'm going to be doing this to my ZX3 (2002 ZETEC) soon, and I was wondering what all I have to disassemble to gain access to the snorkel and what not. Any pictures would be awesome as well. Thanks in advance.

I'm not running an SVT snorkel at the moment -- just the stock snorkel. You WILL have to do some slight modifications to get the SVT snorkel to work with the stock airbox because the snorkel opening/attachment point is shaped differently.

Here's a good write-up that should help (I've seen some posts where other people have joined the hose/snorkel part of the SVT snorkel to the stock airbox adapter using hose clamps and high-temp tape, so there are other methods out there that work):

Hope this helps a bit!

EDITED TO ADD:

This link shows you what the difference is between the SVT intake/snorkel and the stock intake/snorkel:

I won't have to do *any* modifications. As the title of my post says ... replacing stock air box and snorkel.

All you need to do is disconnect the MAF tube from the side of the airbox. Then loosen the two plastic screws that hold the fron of the snorkel to the radiator crossmember. Remove the PCV hose. Then it will all just pull out. The snorkel will go in w/o removing anything, but it requires a little patience.

i plan on doing the same thing in a few months, how much is it costing you?

I found it easier with the battery and tray out to be able to route the snorkel. The airbox just pulls out completely. If you have the SVT MAF to go with the airbox and snorkel, it would be better to use it. There is a definite increase in airflow between the stock and the SVT intakes.

I found the airbox and snorkel used from a member on here for 75 bux. New from Ford its pretty pricey. Your best bet is to keep your eye open on here for someone that has gotten a CAI or SRI and is selling their box.

Pretty much every other post I've read has said to *not* use the SVT MAF when doing this conversion. Something to do with lengths or such and causing the car to run lean.

You use your maf, not the svt one. The inner diameter is way different and will cause a check engine light and the car wont right right. The only way to the svt one is to have it tuned for it.

From what I've seen the stock airbox top should bolt directly on to the SVT airbox bottom -- just pull out your stock airbox bottom half and your stock snorkel, then install the SVT snorkel and the SVT airbox bottom half. This means there should be no need to swap out or uninstall the airbox top, the MAF tube, or the MAF in order to convert to the SVT airbox bottom and the SVT snorkel.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on this, because this is what I have planned for a future upgrade.

I wouldnt do that, its different and the svt was designed as a unit. The maf will change right over. Have you got the box yet? If not, PM me.

I did this a few months ago an all you need to do is replace the under part of the stock airbox, and the snorkel will bolt right up. My check engine light never came on and I noticed a difference as soon as I took it out for a spin.

Just to clarify, did you retain your stock Zetec intake tube (from the MAF/airbox lid to the intake manifold), the stock MAF, and the top half of your stock (non-SVT) airbox and just slide the lower half of the SVT airbox and SVT snorkel in place below all that?

I do already have the box and snorkel, thanks tho. My question now is this ... on the driver's side, there's a rectangular opening basically around where the airbox resonator would mount on the stock box. Is there supposed to be something there? I tried looking on FordParts.com but they didn't really have any pictures of the SVT box setup.

Check out these two posts -- the first one shows what the "Iceman"-type side intake on the SVT airbox looks like removed, and the second post shows what the SVT airbox looks like with it installed:

Absent an Iceman ... is there supposed to be anything in that hole in a standard setup?
On the stock non-SVT airbox, there should be a black plastic box in that location -- that's the resonator.
