My son is in the process of trying to replace the old front subframe on a 2006 Ford Focus. He has it up on jack stands in the garage, has removed the front wheels & tie rods, and spent a lot of time looking over the bolts on the bottom of the subframe itself. (we have replacement subframe, bolts, tie rods and control arms)

What is perplexing him is that it appears that the steering column comes down and is bolted to the top of the front subframe. He is scratching his head trying to figure out how he is supposed to loosen the bolts up on top of there - there just doesn't seem to be enough room up in there to get a wrench on the bolt(s) to loosen them up.

Has anyone done this before, and if so, can you please offer some hints for the best way to get past this particular problem? Thanks so much!

Ok, so first step is to take all of the bolts underneath off and lower the subframe down with a jack, and THEN as a second step you disconnect the steering column? Normally he has been able to find youtube videos, but the few he has found on this skip past taking the actual bolts off in the videos......
