Just work it. You shouldn't have to take that bracket out at all. Just get a screwdriver or a prybar and pry a bit. You can also use a bar of some sort to pry on the motor to move the entire thing free of the mount. I used my jack handle.

I tired to get it off without taking the bracket off, and got tired of trying to pry the engine around. It only took me about about 2 min to get the old one out and new one in with the bracket off. There are only 3 bolts holding the bracket on though. The bottom 2 are easy, the 3rd bolt is annoying.

Put the car up on jack stands, and put a jack under the motor. Use the jack to alleviate pressure from the motor. push the motor up as high as the the other motor mounts will give you sway, trying to push the motor more forward AWAY from the tranny mount. this should give you those extra inches you need. Does this make sense?

You're gonna love the way your focus feels after that install. be prepared for vibration though... Do you have the other 2 mounts solid as well??

I'll recommend this bit of advice from experience. If you plan on modding your car, especially in a performance manner, you NEED to have ALL of your motor mounts done first.

I ignored my friends advice only to eventually at one point or another blow ALL of my stock motor mounts. Just doing one mount puts stress on the other 2 mounts. The saying is true, you're only as strong as your weakest link. Do what you will, it's your tuning experience.
