I have a 2001 1.8 focus (mileage 106,000) which refuses to start after a 30 mile journey. After several hours it will start up again on the turn of the key. Computer diagnostics have not come up with any faults and there are no red lights showing up on the dash. What is the expected life of a fuel pump and sender on this model? Is this a common fault?

sounds like you need a fuel pump. my moms taurus used to start up and you could drive forever then if you shut it off it wouldnt start till it cooled down again for some reason

Thanks so much for confirming what I suspected might be the problem. Have been out today and ordered a new fuel pump and sender which should arrive by Tuesday. Then just waiting for my big son to fit it (hopefully in the week) and then (hopefully again) up and running. I hate being without my Focus
