Hi everyone,

I bought a Focus 2001 LX SPI 3 weeks ago, and since then I have been working on it: mechanical maintenance, detailing... Hopefully it is gonna look like new in one month time.

I am Spanish and I am not used to the car beeping always I open the driver door, It's extremely annoying and I don't see the goal of it. I would like it to beep only when I leave the lights on. Is there a way to do this? is there a fuse I can remove to make it stop beeping?

Second, I bought a car with everything manual inside: no power locks, no power windows and no power mirrors. I am going to install power locks in the car, but I haven't found a lot of information about it. There is no sticky post about it. I was thinking on buying a universal kit like this on ebay. Has anyone used one of these? Can anyone help me with some info? I am not interested in getting it done in a store, I am a diy guy.
Am I going to need a tool for removing the manual window crank?

Third, my rear doors can not be open from inside, is it a children lock? I haven't found any button to disable it?

This might solve the rear door lock problem.
It's from my 2004 owners manual, but with any luck it'll work on your car.

Childproof door locks
• When these locks are set, the
rear doors cannot be opened from
the inside.
• The rear doors can be opened
from the outside when the doors
are unlocked.
The childproof locks are located on
rear edge of each rear door and
must be set separately for each
door. Setting the lock for one door
will not automatically set the lock
for both doors.
• Insert the key and turn to the
lock position (key vertical) to
engage the childproof locks.
• Insert the key and turn to the
unlock position (key horizontal)
to disengage the childproof locks.

The beeping refers to a number of things and is a warning feature... Focuses don;t beep as soon as you open the car door unless you left the headlights on, the key in the ignition or something is terribly wrong with the cars shifter ( those are the only 3 that I have encountered)

Well Feral, as soon as I open the door, with all the headlights off and no key in the ignition it starts beeping, and I checked that all doors are well closed. So does this mean a shifter problem? there is no engine light or O/D problem? shifter works perfect afaik.

What else can it be?

give me a min uploading the vids now to photobucket..

look at your ignition and tell me if it looks like one of these
1. looks like a rough finish all around and the slot where you put the key is a little off center

2. slot for the key is centered, and you have a nice nickel.chrome finish ring around the outer perimeter of the ignition


as for the window crank removal I didn't bother buying the tool.. I went to the dollar store bought a cheap micro screwdriver set for a buck and ground off the end and rounded it so it won't scratch then bent it twice and pulls the clips no problem without any damage

Thanks Feral for the vids, rep for you! I will check my ignition later when I get home, but I am sure it beeps without the key or any other thing. Why did you remove the window crank for? have you also installed power locks? Thanks for the tip with the tool.

Anyone know anything about these ebay kits? and how to install them,

Im doing a power window/power mirror conversion on my car... my car does have power locks already but all the doors need to be gutted for all the power stuff


what Im thinking is that the key in the ignition switch is either jammed/broken which its telling the car that the keys still in it but it isn't... the old ignitions were notorious for that (style 1) both my Focuses had there ignitions replaced for locking up ( basically both broke and wouldn't turn and kept registering a key when there wasn't

Finally, I tested it yesterday and the problem is exactly in the ignition, as you said. It is in good condition and works perfect, but it seems that when you pop out the key the ignition does not completely return to its normal position, so the car thinks the key is still there and starts beeping. I have been trying to push the ignition, and you can make it stop. I don't think it's worth the money changing the ignition because of this, does anyone know an easy solution? or what would be the price of this repair?

By the way, are you using a kit for the upgrade? or you are trying to get OEM piece from scrap yards?
