Dealer says my 2005 ZX3 115K has a hole in the tubing. They want $580. Say they have remove intake to do this repair. The car has been dieing when I come to a stop light. I'm in Austin. Is this normal?

Let me know.
Thanks
Mark

Which tube? Do some investigating on your own. You can feel around and often find the hole when your finger gets sucked in some. Or get some carb/TB cleaner and slowly spray it on the different hoses, if your car's revs go up, you've found the leak. Otherwise it seems a little pricey just to replace a hose. Take it to another dealer ... or even an independent repair shop if you know of any.

Do you have the 2.3L engine? The pcv hose is a problem on them & the valve and hose are located behind the intake manifold- the manifold has to come off to get it out. Also, I do believe the hose is covered to 100k miles- If you would like, PM me your VIN and I can check it for coverage.

Actually, the one that seems to go bad is the one on the back of the engine ... not the one up front that connects to the PCV valve itself. Its discussed in this thread. There's even a pic of what the replacement hose from Ford looks like. They added some head shielding to it.

The 02 ZX3 has the 2.0L ZETEC in it. Which PCV hose has to be changed is the question? There are several hoses involved in the system.
Damn beats me.... I just know I'm having the same problem as the OP. I was told last time I had the car worked on it needed to be changed due to hole or flap... I figured it was something I could do myself and save the extra $$$

Im unsure where the Duratec hose is but here is the location to the people who asked about where the Zetec one is

That one in the picture is brand new but NOT the correct one they just put the same crappy non shielded one on mine which will result in the same crap again ( Pssst ford did this one aswell)
