I've got a set of wheels that are looking a little tired, chips & and a little rash etc. blasting and recoating is out of the question. I can buy new rims for the price they charge around here. So has anyone done this with success, did you rattle can them or have them sprayed. I know about the prep and you're supposed to use a ureathane based paint according to the powdercoaters. Just wondering if anyone has tried this, what paint was used & did it work.

i rattle canned my rota's cause i had the paint already. i used a black metallic automotive (duplicolour) paint and clear coat. did them last winter, so far no chips or anything and look as good as when i finished. i think its more in the prep then anything

Just make sure you use clear coat after you are done painting it

After the primer, I just used $0.96 black paint from Walmart and it has held up really well under the clear coat. It takes some sanding and polishing to get a good shine but it's hard to beat the price if you have the time to work on it.
