HELP ! ! ! My O.D. light suddenly started blinking. Then it goes out for a day. Then it randomly will start blinking. when it's blinking, the transmission seems to shift really hard(i.e. slamming into gear too hard). Are there any switches or modules or relays that might be causing this ? Do I need a tranny flush ? Tranny service ? And what exactly does a tranny service entail ? Please help.

That's the "check engine" light for your tranny. Generally it is not a good news situation.

sorry Humphrey. I'm new here. 2004 Focus ZTS. Are there some things I can check or is it time for a running flush or what can I do ?

Before doing anything else, I would have the codes pulled. If you have an ELM327 based OBD2 reader (USB or bluetooth) you can use the Forscan program http://forscan.org/home.html in conjunction with a computer to read the codes, otherwise a code reader would be needed. Alternatively since it may involve something inside the transmission then taking it to a dealership or a good transmission shop may be a prudent thing to do if you are not familiar with the inner workings of the transmission. Could be anything from a stuck valve solenoid, to a broken wire, to the transmission slipping internally beyond the programmed "safe" limits. Until the codes are pulled everything else is just guessing.

Some people have fixed similar problems at home by doing this;

Drop trans pan. Replace one or all 6 solenoids. Re-install pan. Add new fluid.

I am not saying you should do this, but wanted you to know about it. If it was me in your shoes, I would... but would also double check the system wiring and fluid level first.

Disregard the picture of the PCM connector with 104 pins because your PCM does not use that kind of connector.
Edit: Oh wait! Maybe it does use that connector? You never told us if your car is a Zetec or Duratec.
