What should I be preparing for? I have been working out. I need to know if there is anything else I should cover. Like how to disassemble an M-16? Or USAF history? Can anyone give me pointers on what to do one month from basic? Kinda nervous..[xx(]

Back when I was in all we did was run. Never took the M-16 apart.

Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut, When marching do not bounce. Volunteer for KP (Easy times and you get to eat some good things your flight doesn't). When you pull dorm guard make sure you don't let the DI in the door with a fake ID (Ours used a pic of mickey mouse on his ID and one guy let him in). Have the dorm guard wake you up slighty before revelry and get your uniform on. Make sure you buy a brand new razor and never take it out and display it until inspection. Make your bunk as tight as you can but they will throw it out the window anyway.

That is about it for now, It was some of the best times of my life and I never had a regret about going in.

Meet up with me the next time I come through Cincinnati so I can give you my old BMTSG. Haha.

EDIT: There is still a lot of running. You alternate days of how much you run. You will disassemble the M-16 and fire it, but it's easy enough to do that practicing or studying isn't necessary, you'll have plenty else to worry about.

I'll be through Cinci Friday late evening if you want to meet me.

As far as your physical assessment, that's a good start. I can't remember the standards now, but if I recall it's 11:47 or less 1.5 mile run, ~50 situps, and ~50 pushups. Those are minimums.

You'll be fine though. The amount you'll push and the running you're going to do for PT will get you where you need to be.

Well the good news is both are wide open. They are always looking for Special Operators and communications especially in the intelligence fields are critical. I was a Combat Controller for 10 years and loved every moment. I will tell you the operational tempo is break neck speed. Try this website it links to all of the Air Force special operations fields.

Welcome to the USAF. I was worried (many) years ago when I joined. Heard many horror stories from my brother about his Army bootcamp. AF turned out to be nothing like that. I was certainly no jock and was worried about the PT portion. I was 6'1" and weighed 147lbs. All I ever got yelled at was about "you need to eat boy!". I'll take the TI's about 15 mins to pick out the mouthbreathers and jokers. Just follow instructions and you will blend in and just breeze along. After about the 3rd day, I actually had fun. They will focus on the troublemakers or people who don't listen. You'll do fine. Thanks for your service to our country!

i was at lackland in march of 1984. i'm sure a few things may have changed, but for me it was like summer camp with smartly dressed NCO's screaming at me for 6 weeks, LOL do not volunteer for anything, you also never bowled (will get you cleaning toilet bowl detail for 6 weeks). don't speak unless spoken to, and ALWAYS remember to properly address your TI, lest you spend 20 minutes screaming the proper words into the bathroom mirror. make sure the family doesn't send goodies until tech school, you may end up sharing them with 50 other guys. you will be blessed not to have to deal with tech sergeant gore, a man so ferocious he once did elevate a poorly made bed over his head. thanks for your service to our country. peace, john
