The 04 has a few updated parts, and a little better factory tune, possibly some of the remaining factory warranty, also has HID's and heated seats, but on the downside it has Traction COntrol that you cannot turn completly off without an aftermarket tune. The 03 has less miles, is silver (my fav car color), But nothing else. I would say spend the extra thousand and get the 04, but that's just me.

I'd try to find out what "kind of miles each has. Hwy, or stop and go city traffic. Also, the red insert interior fades quickly and is very hard to keep clean. I don't know about the blue though. I'm about to unstitch my seats this winter and replace all the red trim with lt grey leather, since my SVT is silver.

also, do you really need the winter package in CA? I use mine in IN all the time, but I've had to replace almost everyone of it's heating elements, the block heater twice. Not worth it IMO.

Yeah, thats the hard part, I love the red interior.. ( Psss.. Wanna sell me the inserts if you un seam them?)

Blue was produced much more on the '04's but red was produced much more for the '03's

I'm leaning towards the '04 because I ha ve heard that it was more refined and better put together.

Also the '04 is much rarer with only 1097 5 doors being made.

how good ARE those HID lamps anyways... Are they the real deal??

Oh, I could care less about the heating stuff... Its the HID headlights that have me wondering..

I had a ZTW with the heated seats.. Baaah big whooopee here in San Jose.. They were actually uncomfortable,,

Well HIDs alone cost a grand, so right there the price difference is justified. Both are the same color and with sunroofs, and right, you're in San Jose, heated package probably doesn't matter.

So for headlights, newer year and blue inserts (because *I* prefer them to red) - I say the 2004. For the difference of a $1000 and 6k miles (both are super low miles anyway) it's an easy choice to me, but anyway that's just my 2 cents.

I would say 04 hands down.

1000 for HIDs alone is worth it and plus if you don't drive a lot you will be fine mileage wise. I believe the 04 had the updated cat bracket, dsi clips, YRFO tune, and other little misc things that I have had to fix on my 02.

Yes it is a few more thousand miles but I would definitely want the extra bells and whistles just to help with resale value.

Hmmm... some interesting comments..

Thanks a bunch !

Could you expand a bit more on the updates that were done for the 2004 model?
what is the YRFO tune?

Lower miles and lower price!! Buy the HID's and you got the same deal. The cold package is over-rated and traction control is junk.

[goofydrunk] Thanks for the link, I got it now..

Gee this doesn't make the '03 look very good at all.

Are you sure the '04 has been cured?[race]

Cured would be a strong word [:)]

I'm on 04 owner, perhaps I my opinion will lend a little weight. The 2004 OEM tune isnt YRF0, its ZED0, which apparently overrules the first TSB tune (was I correct in hearing there is actually a new TSB tune?). It's pretty decent, I get better mileage on it than most owners report, I still get some mild surging around 2500rpm during cold operation. In fact, cold performance all-round is pretty rough. Typical SVT stuff, I cant compare it to the other OEM tunes because I havent driven cars using them.

At some point during the run, they started welding reinforcing plates onto the rear lower control arms to keep them from cracking under the stress of the stiffer RSB. Not sure how much of a problem it is without them, but if it'll keep my rear suspension from catastrophic failure, I'll take it.

I personally like the 2004-style 6-spoke rims, they go well with the lines on the new edge styling.

If they changed the DSI clip, I've never heard about it. My cat head shield still fell apart, the solution was a $1.50 pipe clamp band thinger, no big deal.

You want my opinion, as a 2004 owner? This is important, cause it's my firm and honest belief: Get an EAP. The ONLY option I dont have that I'd pay for is the Recaro seats. Those seats ALONE are worth MORE than the markup, and I'll tell you why. You can buy aftermarket seats for $1500, sure, but they wont have side impact airbags, which means they won't be legal, which means using them could void an insurance claim.

Pony up for the EAP, look until you find one, and drive as far as you have to to pick it up. I'd honestly go big or go home.

the 04 fixed several of the bugs in the '03 plus the HID kit makes up for the 1000$ difference plus the heated seats will make yer but nice and toasty even tho you are in cali ( i hate you) where it never snows (as i write this we are under 12" of snow) plus the 04 is blue. but that's just my opinion =D

Go for the 04. Especially if it still has the warranty. For $1000 more slightly more miles and EAP. Better wheels too. I have an 02, which I bought a year ago, because I needed a car at the time and I wanted an SVT. After reading info on this board over the last year, and if I had the time at the time, I would have went with an 04 with the EAP.

And I can vouch for how hard it is to keep the red inserts clean. If I get raindrops on the inserts it stains. Same with snow. I'm always cleaning them.
