I am suspecting that there is an oil leak from the oil separator, and was wondering if it is possible to seal the housing from outside without removing it.

If so is there a good sealant that you can recommend which can seal the housing?

The likelihood of RTV working there is close to zero, RTV absolutely will not seal an oily surface, it has to be 100% bone dry, and that includes the leak path through the gasket or around it, the oil remaining in that will slide right under the RTV to leak immediately.

The Right Stuff brand is awesome product but I bet it suffers there just like the rest, when used as the only gasket it goes onto absolutely clean and dry surfaces, and why it works so well. Curing in the presence of oil will not go well there.

RTV is some funny stuff, it can go for years with the edge exposed to oil like inside a valve cover, but let oil slide under it like even an oily fingerprint and it fails and leaks instantly, and why so many people have trouble sealing covers with it, you can have no oil film on the surfaces at all, even microscopic.
