Hey Everyone,
Its been a while since I was around when my engine with 1k on it sprung a oil leak. Now, sadly, I am back with some other problem(s) that are scarring the living shnit out of me.
To refresh, I have a 2014 Focus automatic. The car now has 25k on it. I always have noticed a slightly jerky drive at times (and have come to terms that this is normal). About a month ago, I has cruise control set to at 73 on my hour drive to work up 271N and out of nowhere the car started acting like it was running out of gas. The car RPM's dropped immediately and then jerked with a load clank and accelerated back to speed like nothing happened.
I was at speed and on relatively level road for miles. After calming my heart rate, I started listening, smelling and feeling for anything out of the norm. Nothing at all, the car seemed fine. Leaving from work checked for leaks and nothing.
Fast forward to a week and it did it again but this time I was not on cruise control and I was was doing about 65 at a manual cruise. A few days later, I went to pull out onto a main rod near my place ( engine was cold ) and in mid turn as I started to press the accelerator the car seemed shifted into 2nd or 3rd (hell maybe fourth) and all power was gone. Releasing the gas pedal in hopes the car would regain its thoughts, nothing happened. As I gradually pressed the gas, the engine did not rev nor did the RPMS rise. As a matter of fact, the motor seems like pressing the gas was killing the engine (Almost like an old flooded V8). I coasted to the side of the road and the the car jerked hard and then seemed fine. I put it off as a hiccup in the trans computer since I know if I take it to the shop, I will be without a car for a week and no answers other then everything looks fine.
Now this past Friday, pulling out onto a hill from a stop, the car went to shift into second gear and just lost everything it had (it may be crazy but seemed like the car applied some sort of brake, or it could just have been I was attempting a large incline). The car died but the motor was still running. Looking into my read view mirror there was a line of traffic coming fast around a small blind corner. Not wanting to get t-boned I attempted to drive straight into a slight ditch straight ahead.
I had some time to think once on the side of the road. I started pressing the gas pedal and nothing. It was almost like the car was in limp mode. I could give it small amounts of gas to seem the RPM rise 500and could feel the car want to move but then it would let go, all power lost, RPM down to 700 and the car stopped moving again.
No dash lights, messages and or warning. No smell, grinding or anything of that nature. I seriously thought the trans was gone. I put the shifter into low at a stop (and not gas), the trans clanked real loud (I could feel it this time in near my feet). I applied some gas and the the car stated to move. Once I reach about 5-10 miles the trans let go again so at a coast I put the trans back into drive and this time the car would move but I could not give it to much power or it would let go. I drove home another 3 miles at 20 MPH.
Got to the end of my street and decided to give it one last go. NORMAL. The god damn thing drove normal for the last 2 blocks.
It jerked again this morning on cruise so I had enough. I need to do something.
I know there is a HUGE issue and it almost caused a bad accident this time. I know I need to take it to the shop but before I do, I need some advice. It seems like dealing with the dealer is like dealing with lawyers. Does anyone have anything advice, knowledge, passed experiences with something like this. Maybe they might find something or maybe they try to take me down a long BS path about my driving habits but I want to be prepared when I show up. I can not afford to be running around playing the he said she said game.
Thanks in advance.
