and what does OBD II DTC stand for???
The cars computer is known as the "PCM"...powertrain control module. When things go wrong, it sets (retains) DTC's or Diagnostic Trouble Codes that refer to the failure. Serious troubles will turn on the SES (service engine soon) light in the dashboard. Ford told me if there is "NO" SES light, there are no DTC's set

To know what is the problem, you need a DTC reader...like a special voltmeter.. that plugs into a recepticle I believe is in the glovebox area in the Focus and will tell you the DTC's like P402 which you can look up on a list to proceed fixing the problem. (short sentence eh!)

The DTC reader for FORD vehicles (since 1996) is the On Board Diagnostic II tool which you can beg, borrow, steal or buy to become a "back yard mechanic" and attempt to fix it yourseff. Of course, every Ford dealer has them as the first step in the repair process. Needless to say, you cannot fix todays powertrains without this tool unless you are good a "voodo" mechanics.
