Hi quick question for possibly ford technician, yesterday a friends 2006 focus 1.8 tdci would not switch off on the key (engine ticking over) one minute later it's switches off on it's own. Then will not start. Imobiliser light flashes rapidly and engine will not turn over or even attempt.
The spare key has been tried and makes no difference.
I have plugged in a scanner and fault codes pointing to lack of communication between things like body control unit and instrument clusters are present.
Any suggestions as to the cause would be welcome.

Rapidly flashing immobiliser light is the clue. Scanner fault codes confirm it. Your PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) is preventing the car from starting. I haven't a clue though as to what would cause a key to suddenly not be recognized.
Try checking all the PATS/instrument cluster and ignition circuit fuses as a first step. If the car ran with the ignition off that would point to an ignition circuit wiring fault.
