I've got a 2001 2.0 Zetec which began making a low-pitch whining noise recently, so I checked my bearings as it sounded similar to a problem in another Ford I owned. Bearings all fine, but the noise has increased to sound like a helicopter rotor (but slower) when I'm travelling at constant speed or decelerating. Any suggestions on what it is before I take it to the mechanics?

Drum or rotor?

Shoes or pads rubbing. Noise more likely with pads/rotor (wear indicator)
