So I just put a new tranny (ATX) in my focus as my old one started ticking and when I dropped the pan it was full of chips. Put a used tranny w/ 36K on it in and got it on the ground sunday and worked through the first few initial bugs.
Anyways, I'm having an issue with the new tranny not going into 1st. Won't start from 1st in drive or if you put it in 1. Does this sound like a solenoid or valve body issue? Is it something thats common after swaps that just might need some time to work its way in? I still have the old tranny if its something that I need to steal parts from it.

I wouldn't know about it being common after swaps but it could possibly be a solenoid?

If it was you should be getting a check engine light though.

That's the best guess. I don't know which one controls the first couple of gears, tho. Could be A,B or C. You might as well have all three replaced while it's torn down. Spend the money to do it once, not three times.
