I do have a couple of engine swap questions regarding a 97 2.0l SPI into my 96 LX.

1) For me to be able to use secondaries in the intake manifold I should just swap the wiring harness and computer from the 97 SPI into my 96 LX right? That way it will be done right, right?
2) Will a 1.9l GT HO header fit the head of a 2.0l SPI? And have no clearence issues with the oil pan.
3)Will a throttle body from a 3.0l V6 Taurus fit the SPI intake manifold and be an upgrade?

Any help or comments would be sweet.

I thought the motors were identical the only difference would be displacement right? I would check a escort forum too just to be safe. Though I know there are a few spi people on here who might know so here is a bump to help.

3) I can't tell you if a 3.0 tb will fit but a 4.6l crown vic tb will fit with a few adjustments

^ its probably not very easy with an escort, and if iwere ever to swap the motor i'd swap in an SVT or d23. The zetec is just not worth it

LoL, yeah if I were going to swap an engine, and not just swapping SPI for SPI, I would not even think about a zetec, not even a half second. Nothing against it; but if you're going through the trouble, why squeeze just 15 horses more? Why not move up into a V6 or something better, maybe with VVT technology or something? Just so many other options ...

as a former scorter, i think i can help you out there

1.) yes, but i have heard of other ways of doin this sort of thing usin the 1.9's ecu, but it involves usin the shift light on an aftermarket tach to signal the intake to open up
2.) yes, it'll clear the oil pan (by a lot if i remember right), you'll need to get rid of the cat and i think there is some welding involved....http://www.feoa.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=27258
3.) this is the only one i'm not sure of, ask some ppl on feoa, it's a great forum if you're not already on there,

Oh, btw zetec won't fit, if you really want some power get the gtx engine, or as jdm calls it the bpt, it's a 1.8L turbo 180 hp stock for about 1600 bucks, for another 2 or 3 hundred you can get the thing runnin 270 hp no internal mods, i've drivin one, it's a frickin blast....lemme know if you got any questions

let me clarify that last post, the zetec will fit, but the engine mounts aren't the same, that's what i meant, IMO not worth the work to get the zetec in there, get the gtx the mounts are the same, but the wiring is different, but most of the ones on the net come with EVERYTHING you need, ecu, tranny, wiring harnesses, intake, header, etc....

Most 1.8 BPT come with the original AWD tranny that will not work with the Escort, a Escort GT tranny is required along with a GT harness/ECU and every thing else needed to make the LX a GT motor swap.

A Zx2 Zetec will bolt in, the Zx2 and 91-96 Escort use the same chassis. But the buzz kill is you'll also have to swap over the tranny, ECU, complete harness and complete fuel system for every thing to work right, and all that for just 20hp usally does'nt make it worth while.

to all you spi'ers out there contimplating a Zetec swap don't it's a waste. you could just as soon, get a Hs22a 4g63 or a 2.5l V6 for bout the same price if not cheaper with MUCH more power.... why waste all the effort(not just time, but money as well, the loss of sweet sweet money for a crappy underpowerd motor) of swaping to that engine when you only get an extra 20 AT CRANK...
