Driving home, lost power, all gauges wet down, radio went off. Then all the gauges pegged all the way to the right then back down again. This went on for several miles along with some transmission shifting down then back up. I was able to continue till the batt. went dead.
Charged the batt. wont start, not even a hint of starting. Like no power getting to the starter.
Where do I start?

Trace the power wire to the starter. Also check the power on the battery to make sure the battery is holding a charge. If you can get the car to start then check the alternator. If its not that it could be a problem with the ecu.

A full gauge sweep is an indication of an electrical power interruption to the ECU. Bet your alt (or the voltage regulator within it) failed and you ran on battery power until your battery gave out.
Check wiring as suggested including plug to the back of the alt, alt cable in line fuse (if fitted) and battery post terminals for corrosion/tightness. Load test the battery.
It's unlikely to be an ECU problem; car was just acting odd because it's not getting a consistent voltage.

Thanks,
Found the problem, loose connection on the engine block. Difficult to get at, but good to go now.
