Hi,

My engine over heated and wasn't worth rebuilding. I recently purchased a used engine. I used my previous injectors and replace both O2 sensors with brand new ford ones. The engine starts and revs to about 2500 rpm but would not idle until it warms up a little bit, when the car finally idles the catalytic converter goes glowing red. I was reading the owners maual and it states the car goe into a protection mode when it over heats do I have to take the car to a dealer and get a reflash or relearn?

any ideas or input would greatly be appreciated

thanks Jamie

If the cat is glowing, could it be that its clogged up and not flowing? Then once the gasses get hot enough and thinner, it might let enough by to actually be capable of idling?

Just taking a guess here. Have you tried disconnecting the cat and starting it up?

Sounds like you have a clogged cat. If so, you're better off buying a high flow cat as a new replacement from Ford is $2000. Or if you have the money, might be worth taking to a mechanic to sort it out.
