on an '04 SVT...

Question #1:
While replacing the infamous cube bushing on the shift linkage I noticed my shifter cable rubbing on this hose and chewing thru it. WTF is this hose and what is it doing here? http://tinypic.com/r/jugtau/8

Question #2
While installing my STS I found this shot O-ring laying on the floor underneath the shifter. Any idea where this came from? Anything important? http://tinypic.com/r/2jb8lxu/8

Thanks so much for helping a noob out!

#1: I trying to remember from memory but I'm pretty sure that is the vacuum line leading from the PCV valve. Where is it coming from and where is it going?

That's a heater hose, do something with it before you end up on the side of the road. I zip tied that one up and out of the way. There's a ton of hoses I've moved around or put "protective wrap" on this car so they don't chafe.

The Oring looks like a piece of junk a previous owner dropped.

EDIT The hose above it the PCV hose, I think I wrapped heater hose around that one so it doesn't rub against the intake manifold.

Is your car turbo? You have some other sensor where the ECT should be and what looks like a petcock where a hose is supposed to go.

I can't remember where all the hoses terminate right now, the hose system is convoluted on Zetecs.

LOL, looks like some real "modding" going on there to say the least.

I want to say it's the hose that goes to the thermostat to heater core. I think It’s the one with the connector in-between that makes you wonder why Ford didn't make the hose one piece. You have to order two hoses to make the one.

You might want to check you thermostat housing for leaks when you get there. The Contour housing is a pretty good upgrade if you didn't know.

It's neither one of those I know.

Since this car has 10 freakin hoses I need a pic...

You've found the two SVT specific heater hoses... CFM Oil Cooler and Heater Core Silicone Coolant Hoses for 2002-2004 SVT Focus
Then everything on the RA list (*omit 19154 for SVT*), six heater hoses there
If you include the upper and lower hoses, that makes ten. Gates # 22502 and 22801

CFM didn't offer the two SVT hoses when I needed them, and Ford discontinued the long hose. So I took the Gates 19154 and trimmed the different part off. Then I used straight heater hose and two 90* elbows to make a replica. It would be easy to do the same for the smaller "s" hose. (Ford still had those at the time I needed it.)

[chairfall] haha this is one of those.... I can also corroborate the presence of the Mysterious O-Ring in this area, it must have been part of the stock shifter assembly. Over the weekend I went in there to clean & grease, and low and behold... right where the inner shifter cable connects on the bottom most ball pivot, there it was.

Except mine had not fallen onto the shifter base or on the floor, it was still dangling and looping around that specific connection.

Always been the sole owner of this car, and I did have a stealership install the short throw AGES ago... so unless our cars were seen by the same O-Ring Bandit Tech, it must have been part of the old assembly... simply left behind to roam wild [doorpeek]

The mystery could live on, but more than likely that's it on the above pic.... who knows... if you see one approach with caution[hatchet]
