Well everyone, as most of you know, I traded in my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 – S2 Edition (see my Photo Gallery for last pics) early this week for a 2006 Volvo S40 2.4i with the addition of their Sport Package. The details of the car are below along with 11 pics I took today since it finally stopped raining around town. Some may recognize the areas I took the pictures in as I went to the same places that I took the pictures of my focus back in the day (see my Photo Gallery) to compare if you want.

Anyway the details of the car are below, both Carrie and I are absolutely in love with the Volvo and extremely happy (and proud) of our latest purchase. Only plans we have for the Volvo in the next coming months is the Volvo S40 spoiler which we’re adding probably around the start of August and possibly the ground effects kit from Volvo for the S40 (around $2700 so a bit costly but very nice). I also added a new Escort Passport 8500 X50 *blue* radar detector which will be nice for those ‘highway’ runs.

Hope you enjoy, we definitely are…….

Feel free to comment…… [thumb]

I've wanted to know since I first saw pictures of the interior of the S40, is that center stack really as, um, 2-dimensional as it looks?

Sharp looking car, I approve heartily. Good color [thumb]

Yeah the center console is completely OPEN behind, it's about 2-3" thick MAX.... really cool. I tried to get a good picture of it but it's hard with the door in the way, etc. In the first interior picture, you can see the opening behind the center console. There's a storage tray behind it near the bottom which you should be able to see.

Added one picture at the bottom off the Volvo website showing side view of center console.

Looks good chad, got any toys planned for it?

You might be too old for a modded focus, but not a modded volvo.

Honestly not much, with all I spent on the focus and the amount of 'real' performance I got out of it, I dunno much about modding right now. I'm planning to add the Volvo Spoiler and possibly the ground effects kit they have as an accessory but both of those run around $3000 for example.

I'm planning to keep this car the way it is for the most part and look into getting a late 1960's restored Camaro, Olds 442, Pontiac GTO, Firebird/TA, etc, something of that nature (1969 approx) which I've been looking into for a couple years now. You can find them around $20,000 restored completely and that would be the 'fun' car. This one is ment solely to be a 'normal' day to day use vehicle as far as I feel right now.

Taxes and everything in, around $40,000USD. I got a 'slight' discount on it since I know everyone at the dealership very well (my dad worked for Ford for 20 years before he passed away from Cancer a little over 2 years ago). Put down $12,000 including the car as a trade in and payments are around $600CDN a month (5 year term) at 1.8$ financing which is an amazing rate. We were going to do the 4 year term but Volvo doesn't have any penalties if you pay the car off early so why not just do the 5 year. For the record I did not lease this, it's a complete purchase.

After interest is worked in, and everything for the car, it's around $48,000CDN. I think that is $43,000ish USD

I want to get a picture of the car at night with the exterior lighting on. I was reading up and apparently the headlights have a 'halo' effect to help oncoming cars judge the distance better. Also I haven't seen what the car looks like at night with the fogs on also (not sure if they are strictly very bright fogs or driving light capable).

On yeah Jon, I plan to possibly do the headlight upgrade to HIDS as Volvo has a package and I've been looking around on the net about this also. Apparently Volvo's are seriously computer oriented, like this thing tells you when the signal light is burned out via the message system on the dash, licence plate bulb burnouts, etc along with dozens and dozens of other sensors, crazy stuff. I guess HID kits draw less power hence the Volvo throws a CEL and message warning for voltage problem when the kit is installed. I am currently looking into pricing of the dealer installed package as I think that would be a very nice upgrade. Probably $$$$ though the roof but yeah, checking into it.

Unfortunately most of those are for the Turbo option (T5) and we didn't get that with this car. The T5 for example, all in all was a huge increase in the cost of the car, plus we couldn't get a 2006, at least easily so as the salesman mentioned, we'd be looking at about $10,000 more for a T5, $10,000 is alot for 50 extra HP as they don't come with much other upgrades then the engine.

EVOLVE (Volvo Aftermarket) has a reflash that adds ALOT of performance to the car but huge price, check out their website if you want (T5 reflash = 34HP/37TQ increase)......

Forgot to add, planning to tint the back windows (2 passenger, 2 small side back and back windows) about 35-45%, nothing extremely dramatic but noticeable. Might do this soon as I get an awesome deal on tint though one of the dealership's contracted out detail shops (onsite).

Nice. I love volvos, almost bought a used V70R instead of the focus. Anyways, super nice. Is the ride as smooth as all the other volvos i have rode in, I really like the solid feel they have. congrats on the upgrade.

Family man, if you consider my three cats as my/our 'kids' then yeah. Not planning to have any kids here, either of us.

Yeah there's been some awesome late 60's musclecars kicking up here for sale time to time. Been toying with the idea of getting one, possibly next summer.

Yeah the Volvo drives extremely smooth, dead silent inside and what also gets me is how easily the car maintains speed. You can hit 60-70MPH easily and the car barely huffs. I'm not talking acceleration but I guarentee the 260km speedometer might be reachable. I'd never go that fast though...........

I'm still trying to get better at taking pictures, these are from a 3.2 mp Sony Digicam so I'm sure if I had a better cam, they would turn out better. Going to try to take some night shots sometime soon to show the lighting. I totally love the AMBER signal lights and marker lights on this car, including the ones on the side view mirrors. Looks fabulous at night.
