The wheels in my head are spinning:
I just added Nitrous to my Automatic 2002 ZX3.
My wife's 2002 SPI sedan has been down waiting for power steering pump,belts,hoses etc....
The question is:
Wouldn't it be smarter to find a donor 5 speed Focus and swap the MTX 5 speed tranny into the Nitrous Focus and do a Zetec swap into the SPI Car?
I have alternate transportation for during the swap(s).
What year donor Car would be needed?
I am thinking this could be done,the donor car could be parted,the SPI block could be sold locally....Guys,Input appreciated.
The zetec could be swapped with My wifes SPI tranny,right?
And the nitrous would work so much better with a 5 speed.....

The donor would have to be a 2002-04, and you cannot use the tranny that is in the SPI. Well you could use that tranny, but you would have to do a bunch of tuning, and it is much easier to keep the engine/trans together and swap them in.

So I could use the tranny out of My atx 02 to complete My wife's swap...

Out of curiosity,whats different in say a 2000 Focus donor Car that wouldnt make the swap criteria?
Cause Man,I just found a great deal on a 2000 zx3.....

You would have to change ALL the wiring and modules in the entire car, and change the entire airbag system if you would wish to retain A/C. It can be done, but is a big pain in the ass.

You can use the engine/trans, pcm wiring harness in your wifes car without any problem.

I have been doing at least 2 of these swaps per week at work, so I got pretty good at knowing the compatability of all the parts.

Actually,I messed up,the donor Car is a 2001
Does it make a difference on My atx Focus manufactured on 05/02?
I thought I read before about a difference in the 02 at the half year.......

That would be the same thing. The difference in 02.5 is the manual trans is upgraded slightly, and has a new style of shifter and cables. If I was gonna do that swap, I would be looking for a 02.5-04, just for the more reliable shifter cables.

ok....that's what I'm going to start searching for then.

Mods on the Car so far are:

Shoot,I guess I will need another Flex pipe?
Will my SCT tuner still work with the MTX trans?

It will make a huge difference with a manual trans. Your SCT tuner will work, but you will need a new tune for it since it will be for the manual trans ecu.

My swap from a 01 SPI to a 02 Zetec was hard because I had to change every bit of the harness like InfraRed said. I also had to swap airbags, front seats, emergency flasher switch, AC switches, lots of little things that take time to swap. For me it wasn't to bad as I had two friends with part outs at the time, but if I would have had to go looking for all that, it would have been really bad.
