The time has come guys to purchase a newer vehicle after my MK1 has had enough. It was a 1999 so was getting on and think I did rather well considering it was under 100,000 mile when it did. Just goes to show these engines are solid and will keep going if looked after but to many age related issues starting to creep in and the last being the drive shaft going.

Purchased my MK2 last week and absolutely love the car and compared to the MK1 feel rock solid IMO. It has had a full service history from new and 3 previous owners. The last owner having it from 2008 and I can tell it has been looked after.

My question is guys as it is a used car and all you guys knowing these cars inside out, what do I need to take a look at. The only receipts I have is for some of the services and a Cambelt change at 89k. I am looking at a full service in the next couple of week for peace of mind. Wanted your advice as what to look at myself and what to keep a eye on before a problem pops up.

Reading through the Forum I have noted:

Engine Mounts
Rear Anti-Roll Bar Links
Exhaust Rubbers
Valve Gasket

One thing I do know is not there is the Engine Undertray. Are you guys constantly replaceing them and is it worth purchasing a new one?

Any advice from you guys is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Need to be cautious in your reading here.

The VAST majority of info. is for the US/Canada MkII version, which is a modified version of the MkI. Except for revised bodywork/interior most pieces are similar to the late version MkI's with durtec engines.

Your version is quite different, so except for a few posts on the Euro/World version here & in the tech chat section there isn't a lot of info. to be found.

Anytime.

It's not that we don't like talking to you folks, or that there aren't quite a few from over there as members. Just that our local version is what gets the most attention here.
