Miscellaneous Exterior Modifcations

16731 Views 0 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  S2
Thought I would post up a thread of the various links to the various miscellaneous mods on the market today for the Ford Focus. There are so many things that can be done to the exterior that can’t be summed up into one topic hence the ‘miscellaneous’ title. If anyone has any other ones not listed below, please get a hold of me at the contact information at the bottom of this thread.

A side note, just incase the manufacturers update the links to their website, I included the main website link first which is searchable on all the sites incase they change location of the pages. Some of the links don’t include the main website link but anyone who has used the internet knows that you can back off the extra link stuff to the original website. You know what I mean.

Also to add, this list below is primarily starting at the front of the car and working the way to the back of the car. So say your looking for a back hatch strip or something like that, it will be at the bottom of this thread, grills at the top, etc. The thread is divided into three sections, front, middle and end. See below.

Anyway here goes......

FRONT SECTION

Grills

One of the more common mods out there, there are various different styles of grills on the market both the upper and lower ones. There seems to be a trend to go euro in this department. There are quite a few different euro grills out there, please see the list below.

http://www.european-parts.net

The link below will show the majority of the euro grills on the market including the ST170 upper and lower grills, Ghia and RS grills as well as a couple others. Check it out.

Along with the euro stuff there are some North American ones as well. One that is popular is the exact replica of the OEM upper grill common on the focus (except the SVT) but instead of amber upper signal lights, they are white instead. The only place I have seen this grill is on ebay and it pops up on there from time to time. I believe the guy that sells them makes them himself and there are several people who have purchased this upper grill and said it’s high quality. I don’t have a link to it cause as mentioned above, it pops up from time to time, never constantly on there.

There is also some billet grills out there for the focus (also sometimes on ebay) that are badgeless (no FORD emblem). There is a link to one site that sells them below.

http://www.focusperformance.com/tpl...ccat.db&eqskudata=AGNOFOG&cart=11068425512237

Of course there is the SVT OEM upper grill which is slightly different then the non-SVT grills where the signal lights are NOT covered by the horizontal plastic pieces. You can see a SVT grill at the link below.

http://www.focusperformance.com/tpl...db&eqskudata=2M5Z-13200BA&cart=11068425512237

There used to be a company called Grille-Tech a while ago, can’t find the links but basically they offered a ‘mesh’ that you can put overtop of your OEM grills to give it a different look. Something else to consider. Some users on here also made their own ‘mesh’ grills/covers using common materials.

A common thing a lot of people have done is use a product called ‘Niteshade’ to tint the upper signal lights black. For those of you that don’t know what Niteshade is, please do a SEARCH on the forum here and you will find TONS of threads about it. Also if you go into the PHOTO GALLERY on the forum and search for ‘Niteshade’ you will find a lot of pics of it as well as other applications of the product.

Emblems

A very common ‘minor’ exterior mod is to do something with the FORD emblems on the front (upper grill) and back (hatch strip) of your focus. There are several different ones out there as well as a lot of common stick on (vinyl) covers for them. Some of the available ones on the market are actually replacements of the entire badge. Some of the ones I have found are below. The decal covers are all over ebay, check on there.

Headlight Covers and Eyelids

Headlight covers are pretty old school now but a company called GTS makes some for the focus if you want that route. Eyelids are another story and of those the Kamei ones would be the most popular. Another route some people go is with vinyl or Carbon Fiber (CF) overlays.

Lighting Mods

Included below are the infamous upper grill and fog light mods out there. Most people familiar to the focus modding world know about this but the links below will point you out to them. Check it.

Heated Washers

Side Markers

Probably one of the most common lighting mods on the market, the clear corners (side signal light indicators) are available to the focus through APC as well as all over ebay. They add a very nice euro touch to the front end of the focus. You can see a picture of them at www.4apc.net by searching through their easily accessible website.

There are also the Euro side indicators. These indicators are standard on the European focus. They are basically small triangles that fit on the side fender. NOTE: for the North American focus, if you want to install these you will need to get as well the European washer fluid container as the triangles when mounted on the North American focus protrude into the engine bay right where the washer fluid container is so to avoid any problems with that the European washer fluid container is needed.

Z3 Fenders

One way to dressup the front side of the car is with a set of Z3 replica fenders. These fenders also available in CF have moulded vents into the side to give your focus the classic Z3 look. They are sold all over the place, also on ebay. The link to a typical set of these is below.

Miscellaneous Front Section Mods

Hard to find links to these things but there are all sorts of other things you can do like adding different headlight bulbs, license plate covers, vinyl, those windshield washer leds, strobe headlight kits, etc. The list is endless. Most of the stuff (we all know which ones I am talking about) are completely rice and the majority of us wouldn’t ever do those mods but the whole idea of this thread is to basically list ALL the mods out there so there they are. There are probably a whole bunch more but that is all I can think of right now.

If anyone has any others they can think of for the front section, please send me a message at the contact information below so I can add it in.

MIDDLE SECTION

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Paint Matching Body Pieces

A lot of focus modders have done away with the black door mouldings, side mirrors, door handles and hatch strip by either color match painting them either by a body shop or by themselves. It’s a very nice thing to do to get rid of the cheap moulding look. Any body shop can do this for you. Also, there is a thread on FF that pertains to the MAZDA tribute door handles that perfectly fit the focus. The link is below.

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3322

I highly recommend you get a body shop to do this for you. People have lucked out and ended up with a good end result after doing it themselves but considering that these pieces are in the ‘weather’ all the time, get it done right so you don’t have to end up redoing it and wasting your money. A body shop won’t charge that much to do this anyway and it’ll be a perfect spot on match to your cars exterior color with no flaws from dust, etc. Definitely the recommended way to go for this mod.

Aftermarket Side Mirrors

Another pretty common exterior mod is the installation of aftermarket side mirrors. There are quite a few different designs out there. Of course these are ALL over ebay. They actually are pretty good on their though since there is no real BIG manufacturer for the common ones. They also come as power or manual mirror adjustment models depending on your cars setup. There is so many out there I bet I would have a page of about 20 links here. Instead go search ebay for the most common ones. They come in chrome, black, carbon fiber, etc. Some have LEDs built into them, some don’t.

The ones that do seen very high quality are from over in Europe. I included a link to them below for reference.

http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/index.php?cPath=47_25

Window Covers (ALL)

There are all kinds of window style covers out there for the focus. Of the most common are the Vent Visors from www.autoventshade.com for one example. We have all seen these ‘tinted’ stick on or pushed into the window track to let you crack the window down and not have rain come dripping into the interior. There are also some very unique back side window covers out there as well. These I don’t like personally and I have seen them in person on a focus. I dunno, not my style but check them out.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Door/Window Trim

These stick onto the trim piece between the doors and the back side windows. They come in chrome as well. They can make a very nice addition to the exterior of a focus depending on what your ‘scheme’ is. Check it out below for an example. They are sold all over the place including through the parts department OEM Ford. Also at www.fordracingparts.com

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Shorty Antennas

Definitely one of my most favorite mods out there for the focus. The stock antenna on a focus makes the car look like a remote controlled toy. There are tons of shorty antennas out there on the market, some made of billet aluminum. There is a couple links below to some sites that sell them.

http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=47_21_55&products_id=185

http://www.focus-central.com/catalog/details.asp?cid=8&sid=&pid=58

I personally prefer the look of the stock antenna to the billet ones so I made up a HOW TO make your own shorty antenna that is also free to do. The link to my shorty antenna mod is below.

Billet Fuel Door

One way to add some flare to the exterior is to put on a mustang billet fuel door. It’s a simple mod that doesn’t take barely any time at all to do. These are also sold all over the place, there is a link below to them as well as a HOW TO if you do plan on doing this.

Miscellaneous Middle Section Mods

I think I have covered most of the middle section mods, I didn’t mention much about under car neon/led kits. There are several out there if you like that look and I guess these are more a ‘middle section’ mod even though they go around the car. EUROLITE makes the best neon out there IMO and VARAD makes the best LED kits. You can do a GOOGLE search for the manufacturers if your into this look. Other then that, that’s all I can think of right now for middle section miscellaneous mods.

If anyone has any others they can think of for the middle section, please send me a message at the contact information below so I can add it in.

END SECTION

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Debadging

By far the most popular back end mod out there. This involves the removal of the FOCUS and model badges from the trunk/hatch area. There is a really good HOW TO on the forum here explaining this. The link to the how to is below.

http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/debadge/

Emblems

The same as the front emblem topic near the top of this thread, the back emblem can be removed, covered, etc. For information on this, please see the ‘emblem’ topic under the Front Section area of this thread.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Hatch Strip

As mentioned above, the hatch strip is more then likely black on your focus. Some models came with a chrome or color matched one also. A lot of people get this painted along with the bodyside mouldings to match the car. Some people have swapped it out for a chrome version that can be seen below. Please note that the hatch strip is different on the sedan as it is on the hatchback.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Taillights Covers

Along with Niteshading mentioned above, there are the GTS taillight covers (old school) as well as some unique euro covers that leave ‘holes’ through them to give visibility to the tails. I have never seen them really carried by a certain company but there are pics on www.bosseuroparts.com of a set of euro ones, have no clue who makes them though. Another thing people have done is use vinyl or even paint to cover certain areas of the taillight housing to block some light. It’s another option to niteshading.

Miscellaneous End Section Mods

There are also things like different exhaust tips (if you don’t have a catback), license plate covers, VIS even has a CF hatch (www.visracing.com), as well as vinyl, etc. Literally there is tons of things to do. I know on www.european-parts.net there is a different back wiper also. If anyone has any others they can think of for the end section, please send me a message at the contact information below so I can add it in.

Hopefully this will help some of you when modding the exterior of your focus with some subtle mods. I know there are always questions asked and I thought it would be beneficial to have an actual post (sticky) displaying information to the majority of the miscellaneous mods out there on the market for the focus. If it helps out one person, it's done it's job. I have read TONS into exterior modding so if you have any questions PM me on here (Username 'S2') or email at [email protected]
