There's really no "how-to" per se, you just have to do it to figure it out. I'd suggest a Hayne's manual, they have a good step-by-step process (ie, remove this part, then this part, etc etc.) Its not fun at all, when I took my transmission out with the assistance of my diesel mechanic friend we took one night to get it out of the car and then another to get it back in. The difficulty comes from manuvering the transmission clear of the subframe, chassis and engine in addition to clearing the engine output shaft. If you don't have much/any mechanical experience you may want to consider going to the professionals...you can really screw things up if you don't know what you're doing.
