Hey all! I am looking for a new daily driver since my SHO crapped the bed. I found a nice 02 Focus but I ran a CARFAX on it and it showed as a Manufacturer's BuyBack (aka LEMON) Ford bought the car back at 9k miles and they auctioned it off where it was sold to a second owner. The second owner had it for 50k miles. It just got traded in at 60k miles. Because its a trade in, I do not know the history on the vehicle.

It is a BLUE 2 door and has 60k miles on it. The dealer want $7,000 for it. SoCal isn't cheap for cars and everything goes for way to expensive here. I was going to buy the car but am hesitant now with the title having a buyback on it. Any ideas?

An 02 for 7k?! That's nuts. There are plenty of SVTs to be had for less without a lemon tag.

Run away.

yeah, the dealers in socal are way off their rocker with prices on SVTs in Socal right now, your best bet is to check out the cars section of the buy/sell/trade forums here on FF. You will find much better cars for cheaper.

Something about a "lemon" or "buyback" just sounds wrong, and being that its had 50k miles put on it, who knows whats been done to it. I just recently traded my 2002 Focus SVT in and the dealership said they MIGHT be able to sell it for about $4,200 (110,000 miles and a cracked front bumper play into that) but $7,000 seems high for sure. I would look for private sellers either on FF or any other site.

That's bull they'll fix it and sell it for way more than that, I can guarantee you that. That's what they tell you to make you feel batter about what they are giving you.

I would believe this, However they gave me more then what I owed on it... That was good enough for me. To be honest though, I beat the living daylight out of that SVT, Pretty sure the DSI was about to grenade and the suspension needed work, and that's not including the work that had to be done with the exterior!

Doesn't matter, and the fact you got more than you owe just means they knew they could make money off it. But glad you liked the transaction, that can't always be said for the "dealer" experience.

The guy won't go lower then 6795 and says he has a lot of buyers for it. I said thank but I will have to pass. I offered him blue book of 5800 and he declined.
