So I'm buying a car that apparently dropped a valve, or through a rod. Regardless I'm pretty sure the existing engine is toast.

So I'm looking at replacing it with either a complete motor or a rebuilt longblock. I've found a rebuilt longblock for $1300 to my door which I think is pretty good. The question I have is what else will I need to install the longblock?

From what I understand it should come with a rebuilt block, pistons, head, valves, crank, etc. Should I just be able to switch over the intake manifold, starter, alternator, etc no problem? Anything I might need other than new gaskets? Any special tools before I get started? Does anyone know of any online step by step guides?

Thanks for any help and guidance.

Check and see if the gaskets needed for the installation come with the longblock- sometimes they do. Other than that, at minimun you'll need oil and oil filter, an air filter, a gallon of coolent (3 quarts, actually). There'll be some misc. stuff as you proceed with the job.
