I bought a locking gas cap a few months back.....but after a while it started setting the gas cap light, then a CEL. Well I bought a new Ford gas cap, which fixed the problem, but the dealer said Ford didn't make a locking cap for the Focus.

After checking around.....the consensus is that locking caps usually leak and cause CEL problems. My question.....does anyone have a locking cap (what brand) that doesn't leak. I have a California emission car, which is more sensitive to a leak.

Alternately.... has anyone rigged up a method to lock the gas door? I was thinking of a handle/cable in the trunk that released the door. Lot of trouble to make one, but some cars use this method.

The european foci have a locking gas door.

Or perhaps you could get a locking billet mustang fuel door. i think i seen mustang fuel doors modded to foci also.

I have a locking cap, purchased at Autozone, and NO MILs (I have the CA emissions also).

There are two different style locking caps. One has soft, plastic threads, and the other has hard plastic threads/notches. They will both "fit", but the one with the soft threads will not seal properly and will set the MIL.

I have a locking gas cap from autozone. Im afraid to lock it now though cause last time the lock was frozen shut Uh-oh had to jam the key in until it worked. so now my cap is unlocked until it warms up again.

BAT Inc has a locking gas cap. IDK anything about it though.
