No, not dumb at all, that's what I have right now. Just unscrew the star screws holding the big box on, then buy a filter from pep boys and put it on the end of the hose. The only problem with that setup is that you aren't really gaining any power, it just sounds cool [:D].

problem's w/ the SRI's are they sit up high in the engine bay!! heat rises. meaning that w/o cooler air blowing, you actually lose HP. If you get an SVT snorkle w/ a K&N panel, you are getting cooler air into the engine. If you want more HP, you will get it from the svt snorkle and k&n panel filter over a SRI!

a good amount!! the stock intake isn't too bad, and the iceman is only a step below the svt snorkle!!

if your not planning to race and get a turbo or w.e. then if i was you id just get a k&n or any other filters, get one of those metal things with a screw cant remember hows it called and make ur own sri + you can make a heat shield yourself, actually i went to canadian tire yesterday im pretty you guyz have it in us too, nd i saw a cone filter with some kinda cone metal shield on top kinda thing and apparently its the same thing and it was only $29.99, if i saw it before or even knew that you can do that (just put a filter at the end of the stock intake pipe) id rather do that then getting a steeda sri for $200.. exast same thing but cheaper and looks a bit uglier but who cares you know what i mean

with the stock box, the only downfall is the snorkel. you could use an svt snorkel or the cheaper and better option (imo) is to enlarge the hole in the bottom of the airbox and run some aluminium flex hose the the front grill instead of the standard snorkel. this hose can be as wide as you want, and it will have a direct stream of cold air from the grill.

if u want to go with the sri idea (as i have done) be sure to buy/make a heat sheild and run a cold air feed.

and a side note to trailbikerider- after u installed the cone filter did u experience any problems? i find that now my car stumbles and loses power if i floor the throttle at very low rpm (1500).

I saw a flow chart that showed the stock intake with a stock filter out flowed the volant. So obviously, if you put a K&N with the svt snorkle your much better off.

i think your idea is rite on and as for heat soak you can build a custom shield, cut a foot of the weather stripping, and raise the hood in the back with washers allowing the heat to stay away and the heat to escape from the engine bay

the stock zetec exhaust doesn't outflow the volant, the svt stock does. and I also agree w/ the making of the extra pipe for the svt snorkle. it is a good idea not to bottleneck flow!! plus I would be a little wiery about making a heat shield out of any sort of metalic media as you will still get heatsoak!!

definately use a thermal material with metalicd on outside thermal on inside with rubber seal at the top to seal up against the hood raise your hood and get rid of the stripping and it will be perfect

ill just go with the drop in K&N for now and come with some way to run more of a direct flow to the air box from the front instead of the snorkel -- i might leave as stock as possible since i am still under warranty -- thanks for the help yall== if you have any other ideas please share them--- i would like more HP -- but money is tight so.... that leaves it very limited
thanks again

ok here it is, get a k&n drop filter, and on the side, where the resivor(spelling) hole is, cut it big enough so a aluminum pipe(so some kind of pipping) will fit that hole and re-direct the other side to the front bottom grill/foglight hole. allowing cool air to flow into the box, and no need to get a front mount replacement/snorkel.

cheap way, but will work mint!
