State Farm quoted me $342 for six months on my new Focus. Then when I
got the actual bill, $411.

I was able to secure more coverage for my Focus and Mustang with Safeco, and save almost $300.

Just like a bad neighbor, State Farm don't care.

Eh, grain of salt. There are sooo many crazy factors that go into car insurance that nobody is alike. SF still gives me the best rates, especially with all the discounts (multi-line, multi-car, loyalty, safe driver, yada yada).

Wow your insurance would only be around $800 a year? Here the average is like $2000

Yeah, I'm paying less yada now. State Farm got my money for over 30 years.
If you have excellent credit, no tickets or accidents, check again. I thought
State Farm was like a good neighbor. All they did was pick my pocket.

I pay $370 per 6 on my current car with State Farm. Got a quote for my new focus coming in and it was $600 per 6. Checked out a few online places and Progressive gave me a quote for $400 per 6. Makes me wonder how much I was overpaying on my 10 year old car, haha. Good to hear you found some place reasonable.

I'm going from 89$ a month to 146$ on the new car. I wish we had private insurance here so I could shop around. Public insurance is such a scam.
Just shut up, pay it, and hope you never get in an accident. That's the Manitoba way :(

I pay 600 per 6 months with State Farm but I have business class insurance. I might do a little more checking around though. It's always good to save money as long as they will take care of you when something goes wrong. State Farm has always taking care of me no questions asked on anything I had a claim for.

I axed Nationwide after 23 years and went with USAA. It saved me almost $2000 per year (no joke).

Wow you guys in the states are lucky. I'm at just under 2000 per year and I'd say thats pretty cheap up here
Mine will only be a Grand. You guys in Ontario just get screwed.

Again, comparing individuals is preposterous since there are numerous differences, not the least of which being that I've barely been alive 30 years.

I'm glad you found a better deal, but "picking your pocket" is a bit overboard. I'd certainly kill to have an $800 annual insurance bill. I think most of the younger crowd here would as well.

But yeah, obviously go for what you feel a good deal is. I have no experience with Safeco, but State Farm has an awesome record for claims (my last claim was like 8 years ago) and that plus a low rate are really what I'm concerned about most with car insurance.

yeah seriously..... I can't wait to have even a $400 per 6 month bill. I pay $95 a month for liability only. just another perk of being young. (and BTW that's a car from the early 90's)

^ sounds like its just toronto...
Mine was estimated over 2k but with a 25% discount for having a flawless record for years, it's more manageable but still ridiculous imo.

$146x12= $1752 a year. That's with 25% off. So it's actually $2336 a year...
Nice.

An FYI for those seeking a new insurance carrier.

If you have any previous affiliation with the US Military, you can qualify for USAA insurance. I've done a ton of research in the last several weeks and they are rated #1 in most every major category in the industry surveys. Customer Service, Claims, Customer Satisfaction, rates, etc.

It's worth a try on their website to get a quote, they saved me not just hundreds, but thousands. So I booted Nationwide in favor of them.[nutkick]
