Hey question to all you Gurus out there. In the mk3 for the manual transmission the car has shift lights that pop up and tell you when to shift for best fuel economy. My question is if there is a way to change the point where the shift light comes on? I've started the car in test mode and scrolled through the screens and found a menu that looks promising but had no idea how to navigate it. I'm also not sure if this is something that can be program using the Foccus program?

I havent looked in the MK3 focus for the shift light change but it is in the tuning software for the earlier Focus as many have asked for it to get moved up , ask your tuner to see if its in there

Experiment a little.

You'll notice shift point changes dramatically depending on throttle input.

Light throttle = low shift point, lots of throttle for acceleration moves where the light comes on much higher.

The light isn't in "eco mode" once you stomp on it.

If you give the car max throttle in each gear the shift light will come on right at red line. So in a way that is like sport mode.

I recall that many people fixed the flashing clock light on their VCRs with the same method, a small piece of electrical tape.

I've been experimenting with that in the last few days. The light does change dramatically depending on driver input. The more "spirited" you are, the higher the threshold is for the light to come on.

Yeah true. Wouldn't it be cool though if shifting, anticipation, and speed were scored on performance criterion rather than economy though?

You can completely kill the shift light with Focccus and a modded ELM327 I believe but I don't think you can change the calibration that easily.

Shift lights were also meant for drivers learning to drive manual trans. Ford added them in early 80's Escorts, since some were trading in full size automatic Torinos/LTD's and needed to be reminded when to shift.
