Or does NOBODY own an SPI anymore? There is usually ONE new thread (or post for that matter) a day in the SPI section. Our engine is dead. [:(]

yeah it true about the aftermarket being dead for our motors and thus there isnt much to talk about anymore, and everything that could be done as been, although turbocharging is still an option that still needs some perfection with our engines.

I guess I'm just going to have to face it. Sometime in the near furture I'm going to have to buy a new Focus if I want to keep up with the Jones's.

or even better.........a Mazda!

But i completely understand what you're saying. I don't own an SPI, but hell the engine was only in 3 models of the Focus for 4 years. The Zetec was in 6 Models for 4 years including the SVT Zetec. But Both engines have been around for Years and unfortunately they're being replaced by the 2.0 & 2.3 Duratecs.......

I used to have a Mazda truck. It was a reliable little bastard...best vehicle I've ever owned. It had the 2.2, carbuerated four-cylinder that put out 85hp and 118tq to the crank. It was slow, but it was loyal. My next car will be the ZX3 with the 2.3 Duratec or the 04-05 Mazdaspeed Miata (with how much my insurance costs, more likely the ZX3), but I guess it would'nt hurt to look at a Mazdaspeed3... [burnout]

This engine has been around for awhile (twenty-something years) but now it's run is coming to an end. As soon as the last few SPI owners trade in their Foci for bigger and better things, she'll be extinct. [:(]

Dude, you wont be disappointed! This car is pretty quick stock. Modded, its a friggin beast (27 whp from intake alone!!) Not to mention it will out handle almost anything else out there, even in stock form.

I would REALLY love to own one one day, I've always adored the Miata. Personally, I think the new ones look like crap. I preffered the "shrunken-Viper" look myself.

The SPI was available in 1.9 liter form.
No, there was never a 1.9 Split Port Induction motor.

But the Focus SPI and Escort SOHC motor's are all part of the CVH Family.

Started all the way back to 1981 with a 1.6 carb motor.

I'll be holding onto my SPI for a while ... I owe too much on it to think about trading it in. It's been a great car to me, and is plenty enjoyable driving wise, and being in a community like this. Although when I do, I'll come out of the dealership with one of two things most likely; a mustang gt or an escape. A focus is a far shot for me, but we'll see if we get any cooler european like models, which would influence my decision greatly!

I agree. I love my SPI. ANd to add to what Jeff was saying, what makes our 2.0 CVH an "SPI" is the design of the intake ports. From idle to about 3000 rpm it uses the standard ports, but when you hit hte 3 grand mark the IMRC opens up a second set to allow more air into the cylinders. The 1.9 and earlier models did not have this feature if my memory serves me. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as Jeff is though. He is rightfully dubbed an "SPI God."
