I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 with about 90,000 miles on it. My question is that every once and awhile while i am driving the backlight for the gauges will go out and then after a minute or two it will turn back on. It keeps doing this constantly and at random times. Anyone with ideas please let me know thanks.

Bad ground maybe, but a problem with the charging system would almost certainly affect more than just the backlight for the gauges.

I have no idea even where to begin, should i take the dash out and take a look or does anyone know a better place to start. I want to fix it myself to save money.

I would say it is a bad contact between the bulb sockets and the electronic board. But if all the bulbs go off simultanuously, then it would not be the case. In case of a bad ground, the whole panel would go off which did not happen.

Give me the VIN of your vehicle and i can run a full check on that issue and if anyone else is having this problem.

Might need a new IC unit.
