I've got the wheel forever ago but still havent done the swap yet. Been waiting to buy new buttons for the cruise control lol since that was the only part of the steering wheel that wasnt in good shape. This post was helpful though. I pulled the wheel off the totalled focus I found using this post lol.

Another success!

Another success! Bought a good steering wheel with the buttons on Ebay for $68, changing it out was quick & easy with the tutorial here, just got back from the one Ford dealer in my city who was willing to listen to our request, paid $62 and it works flawlessly. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge. You've saved us tons of money.

I'm attempting to do this swap on my mom's 2010 Focus. The walkthrough is pretty solid except for one part: the steering wheel puller. It did not specify any specific KIND needed, so I rented one from Autozone. After about an hour of messing around with it, trying to figure out why it wouldn't work, I finally found a post somewhere that stated second gens require a 2-jaw puller. There are no holes to thread bolts into using the one from Autozone.

In short, save yourself the trouble, make sure to get a 2 jaw puller, and do NOT get this kind:

I'm the "Mom" with the 2010 Focus in the post above - just got my cruise enabled at long last today! Thanks to this thread for all the hints! Along with the pitted steering wheel, it was the one big thing missing from this car and now that is not an issue. Hooray! :)

Awesome write up, thank you for this. Just sourced a wheel and am going to give this a shot on my 5spd manual. Haven't read anything in the thread about it being tried on a manual, but doubt it will be an issue seeing as the later models had it on the SE.

Don't mean to bump the thread but I just did this to my '09 SE. I couldn't stand not having cruise and I am so grateful to have found this thread! Thank you so much! I have the light gray interior but bought a new steering wheel in black and kept my gray airbag and it looks really cool. Got it done in about 20 minutes, then drove to a local dealer where my buddy works and had him enable it for free in 15 minutes. Works a charm and makes me love the car even more!

Can anyone answer with certainty if this can be done in the same fashion to an 08 Focus S two door coupe manual 5 speed model? Thanks..
Not 100% certain, but given that the cruise control system in the 08-11 Focus is all electronically controlled and is part of every single Focus that rolled off the assembly line regardless of transmission type, I'd say that you would be able to do this. Don't quote me on that though

The OP of the thread had an "S" model, so that part is OK for sure (didn't think different).

Didn't read through the thread for a double check on manual versions to make sure all the pedal switches are present, needed one is double use on at least some so I bet it's there.

Got new wheel installed, going to the dealer tomorrow to have the programming done. I explained what I wanted and they didn't seem to act like it was going to be a problem so....I'll report back if this does work with manual 5spd models.

Confirmed.....Yes, this mod will work with a 5spd Focus as well. Took the car in and got it programmed and it works flawlessly. Everything works as it should....the light on the cluster, all the buttons, cruise shuts off if you hit the brake or clutch as it should as well. Very happy with it.

I've been a longtime lurker, but I felt I owed this to the community.

I successfully installed cruise control on my 2008 Focus SE. Rather than replace the steering wheel, I simply notched out the left side and slipped in the button module. I had a dealer, Danvers Ford (MA), reprogram the PCM using the directions provided by the OP. They charged me a half hour's labor, $55.

Thank you OP for the well written article and detailed instructions. I just did the same thing last week. I had pulled a steering wheel from a wrecked 09 Focus with Cruise and Audio controls and installed it in my 09 Focus. I took the stereo from the wreck as well. The audio buttons didn't work with my stock head unit so I installed the other one and now the buttons work flawlessly. The dealer gave me flack about activating it. I had to be polite but firm and showed him he instructions from this post and he said he'd give it a whirl. But I'd pay either way. Had a $200 roll of the dice but it all worked out. The technician was not impressed I knew more than him. Now she's like a whole new machine. Thanks again OP.

Not sure if anyone still participates in this thread, but I just took a journey over to my local Ford dealer and asked them about this. To my surprise, they knew exactly what I was talking about, right down to the PCM options and told me to bring her in.

After about an hour or so of them fiddling with it, they let me know they couldn't find the "Speed Control" option in the PCM. I did not see them going through the IDS but they told me what they tried, and it was the same steps as in the OP in this thread.

Any ideas?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am seriously considering doing this to my Focus. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where a good place to find a steering wheel for a 2010 in the light gray color scheme. I've checked E-bay to no avail. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can look for new at an online Dealer like tasca.com or Village Ford (check their info. in the Vendors section here).

Otherwise it's searching J/Y or even BST or WTB sections here.
