1 minute install video

South Bend Rally Series Stage 1 Clutch (same as Audi A4 clutch)
Aluminum Fidanza Flywheel
Torsen T2 ATB Differential
OEM Headgasket

Total success, though it did take longer than it should've. More later, stay posted.

EDIT: Added a few teaser pics.

Yes, first clutch/flywheel/diff on a FWD car. Not the first time I've changed an engine on a FWD car, though.

In retrospect, it was pretty bold of us to drive an hour to Charles' farm on Friday and expect to have the engine out and back in on time to drive back Sunday. I would not recommend banking on success unless you are confident about your abilities (and the abilities of your friends [thumb]).

How would you rate this on the dificulty rating, 1 easy to 10 hard as hell and never do alone. Assuming someone has access to the greatest shop with all the tools in the world.

well. that is an interesting question that is hard for me to answer.

there is a point you hit when you work on cars that, the first time you do something is no longer "difficult".

basically, if you can install a differential confidently you can time your engine and you can pull your motor and such. I lump those together.

I would say, in degree of difficulty or how much experience you need to do it, I would lump stuff into these categories

change a tire, install intake
oil change, change spark plugs, fuel filter
trans fluid change
brakes
suspension swap
motor/tranny pull, clutch install
diff install,headgasket change,cam install
build motor

Well I did a suspension install, I have done the cams, and i installed the nitrous all on my own. My freinds (who I would try to get to help me) have a shop truck with every tool you could need. They also can rebuild an entire semi-truck from teh frame to rebuild the big diesel motor in about 1.5 days. I a fairly confident that between us we can get it. It is just going to be new to all 3 of us.

yep you will be fine just pay attention to torque specifications and do not reuse bolts that should not be reused (flywheel bolts, strut pinch bolts, etc)

haynes manual will help you, particularly with torques and for telling you how to re-mount the engine into the mounts. it is confusing how to do it the right way. but very important.

Sweet! I got a haynes manual, my focus bible. Love that thing! Alright, not worried anymore. Just gotta get access to a lift now. Is it possible to do this on ramps?

BTW: Sorry for thread jacking, figured I would ask while we had the experts on hand.

ramps, no. my jackstands on their highest setting are barely high enough to clear the dropped trans

and yeah, i dont even use the manual anymore, just for torque specs pretty much lol
