Discussion Starter #1
I have had a bizzare series of problems on my 2000 ZTS w/ 5-speed but I think I have it narrowed down. Often, but not always, the starter will grind whenever you push the clutch in. This happens at a stop, while driving, etc. The ignition switch is kind of worn, it doesn't retract from the start position real well; you have to deliberately pull it back. However, the grinding thing happens even after it's pulled back but not all the time.

I am suspecting that the wear in the ignition is causing the "start" circuit to stay energized. I know that these ignitions have a "disease" and this one was replaced a couple of years ago and worked fine until recently. The smoothness went away and then the grinding stuff started.

Is there any history of this happening? Did a search, couldn't find anything.

Thanks,
BB

Well, the flywheel doesn't move. It' stays in the same spot weather the clutch is in or out.
So I'd say a more likely problem is the Throw Out Bearing.
