I just bought a 2003 four door se that has less than 20000 miles and i was wondering what i should start with either inside or outside mods..i would like it if they were cheaper mods to began with, that is why i'm thinking inside would prolly be the way to go....any advice or ideas would be greatly appriciated!!

If your car is a manual the thing that you will most notice and appreciate is a Steeda short throw shifter. I've heard good things about the STS combined with a VF motor mount, I have the mount but haven't been able to install it yet.
You might want to check out the Cold Air Intakes or the Short Ram intakes for your car.

Welcome aboard!

ya......i could only wish the car was manuel but i got a good deal on it for 7,000 so...i could really pass it up. but i'll look into the intakes or the short ram intakes which ones do you suggest out of those and how much hp will that likely add..like i said i'm new to the whole focus car mods so....and i prolly should say this on here but i had a cavalier before so...hopefully nobody gets mad....but anything will work for me just throw out ideas, prices, and pros and cons.... thanks

I got my injen SRI for 140 sounds great/works great. I couldn't be happier with it. It's also very rare. It looks some what stock too and still utlizes the stosck snorkle.

What motor do you have? If you have the Split Port motor then go for some engine mods first. Put in a few engine mods to atleast get it up to the stock zetec engine capabilities. A lot of people seem to get hydrolock from CAI, so if you are the cautious type like myself go short ram. Put in an updrive pulley, Sceamin Demon Coilpack and live wires, double gap spark plugs, Adjustable cam gear, and a catback exhaust. After all that you will finally be up to speed with a stock zetec motor.

Unfortunately nobody makes headers for the SPI motor anymore.

If you have a zetec, you have the majority of the aftermarket scene.

I have an 03 SE with an auto transmission too. It's not too bad. And everything I suggested is what I plan to install in my car as well.

i got it on ebay. but i have seem a polished silver version for sale on some website if i see it again i'll send you the link. I'm in the same situation I'm still in college so spenind a lot of money on mods is our of the question for me.

First thing you should do whatever engine you have is open the hood and look for the plastic cover on top of the grill. there is a little hump there thats right infront of the snorkle. on the side closest to the engine cut off a rectangular piece. Then get a scrap piece of sheet metal, I found one in my basement, and cut a small square then shape it and cut it to fit from under the snorkle to under the grille. this will help air come through the grille slide up the sheet metal and into the snorkle when driving. heres a picture-

Just pray to god that you have a zetec. I don't know the model specs, so I don't even know if an SE can have a zetec, but good luck! If you get an SPI don't be sad its a very reliable engine.

All the mods I listed are under $200 for each so just get one mod with every other paycheck like I'm doing, eventually you will have a stronger car.

O I forgot to mention this- I have not gotten the screamin demon coilpack with the live wires yet, but that along with the spark plugs fromwww.escortfocus.com should get you a better idle and hopefully more MPG. Its about $170 for everything. I've heard this is one of the most rewarding mods.

Just keep reading up on the board. I've only had my focus for a few months, and I've learned alot just from reading everyone's posts.

PS- welcome to foucusfanatics.

Check with TonyD at Newedgeperformance.com or Mcnewsautomotive.com for those parts. These guys have really good deals and are VERY knowledgable when it comes to Foci.

I have a 2.0 Split Port Induction (110hp) your only other option I believe is the 2.0 Zetec engine (130hp).

Finding parts for the zetec is very very easy. If you have a split port like myself you will struggle to find parts.

As for the coilpack/wires, that totals out to more than what you would pay from myfordfocus.com you are buying them as seperate peices on that website when you get them as a bundle from myfordfocus. I calcultaed a few websites and included shipping if i remeber right they were the cheapest by like $2.00

This is only the secodn car I have worked on so I am learning too. Good thing you can look stuff up at work, that's when I learn the most about my car! haha.

yes, do check out New Edge and McNews they are the local favorites here. And when you need a random part look for the user name v6focus, he runs focus salvage and can probly get you any stock part you need.

Let us know when you have your car.
