Hey guys, my SVTF is stuck in 4th gear.

Could this be a shift linkage problem?

or...a sign of horrible, horrible things?

Shift cables probably. There is a small chance it could be a shift fork. Thats what happened to me. But I was abusing the Tranny.

I just bought the car, it could have been abused.

What exactly is a shift fork? Cost?

I had to Buy I whole New tranny because they dont have parts for them. I do Have the old Tranny though. Mine was stuck in 2nd. So if it ends up being one let me know and Ill see what I can do about shipping one out to you so you dont have to buy a new tranny.

The Shift Fork engages your gear if I remember correctly. My dad showed me what everything does in the tranny awhile ago so I might have that wrong.

But in any case. Its most Likely your shift cables, which is a simple fix.

check the linkage (behind the airbox). mine wouldn't go into 5th/6th one time and it was the plastic bushing on the counterweight that was split and jamming it.

i just took the counterweight assembly off and it shifts better anyway.

Dealership just called and said the transmission and clutch are toast.

Anybody know where you can get a transmission?

I saw one on Ebay, will call them.

$4,750 included trans (3 year, 100,000 mile warranty), clutch, and labor.

Is that fair?

How much is an OEM clutch? Should I get an aftermarket?

If I do get aftermarket will that void the warranty on the transmission?

i wouldn't believe that for a minute. i have had nothing but bad experiences with ford dealers giving me outrageous quotes on stuff that isn't even broken.

when i had the shifting problem mentioned in my above post, the dealer told me my clutch was fried. i knew that was BS so i just picked up the car and figured out what was wrong myself...fixed it for FREE.

imo take it to a small repair shop if you can't figure it out on your own...dealerships are bad news unless you're still under warranty.

Dealership is probably tryin to screw you over. When i went to get a quote from them to put a clutch in they said Ford recommends putting in a new transmission as well. If just your clutch is bad you probably do not need a new tranny.

Yea, but I checked the trans linkage and it seemed fine.

The transmission was stuck in 4th gear. It wouldn't move.

I think something is in-fact wrong with the transmission.
